Our Recycling Centre and Why It Matters
If you’d told us a couple of years ago that we’d be running a fully functioning in-house recycling centre, we’d probably have raised an eyebrow. But here we are, and honestly, it’s one of the things we’re most proud of.
When NorDan acquired Esk in September 2025, sustainability wasn’t just a buzzword that got thrown around in meetings. It was a genuine commitment. NorDan has been leading the way in sustainable manufacturing for nearly a century, and that mindset has filtered into everything we do at NordanEsk.
So what does our recycling centre actually do?
In simple terms, we process and recycle waste materials from our projects rather than sending them to landfill. Glass, aluminium, timber, uPVC, packaging, you name it. Instead of skipping it and forgetting about it, we sort it, process it and make sure as much as possible gets a second life.
For our commercial clients, this is a big deal. More and more developers and main contractors are asking about sustainability credentials, ESG targets and environmental impact. They want to work with companies that can demonstrate they’re doing the right thing, not just talking about it. Our recycling centre gives us the data and the proof to back that up.
But it’s not just about ticking boxes. It’s about doing things properly.
The construction industry has a long way to go when it comes to waste. In the UK alone, the sector produces around a third of all waste generated. That’s a staggering number. We’re not going to solve that overnight, but we can control what happens within our own operation. And that’s exactly what we’re doing.
We’re tracking tonnage diverted from landfill, measuring our carbon impact and looking at how we can keep improving. Because sustainability isn’t a destination, it’s a direction.
